Imaginary Lines in my Life: Edited

Lines around my life

So my line? What is my line? Is it some chessy corny line that goes up and down without a pause? Or is it a line that amazes everyone in a loop? I think my line could be many things, I just haven’t figured out with kind it is though. I know that it goes up during the happiest moments to the dirt bottom worst. Though I hate looking at my lines. I like to look at other lines in my life as I continue to draw my unknown line.
So this one line started slow then rapidly escaladed up. Then for some reason it began to go down. Not straight down like you would think, it looked more like a slow downward spiral. It’s still going down and doesn't seem to stop. It might not realized this.
Another line was always steady as a board. Then it began to crumble. Not all at once, it broke to bits one at a time for several years. Before it broke away it stopped moving forward. Funny how things just suddenly stop.
This line was strong and bold. Never bent to anything, passed through other lines like the wind. Thought it did go down occasionaly it always escaladed back up or maintanied a balance way. That’s a line I aspire to be.
This other line was a line but at the same time not a line. It was short, sharp lines that went horizontal and strainght like a knife. They were red as well. I don't know why these lines became so.
Another line was all in jagged directions. Going one way then another so fast. I never trusted this line. It never paused for anything or anyone.
Another line was so carefree. It looked like waves and loops, just going with the flow. Never had a pupose or ambition of any sort. It did seem happy though, I can’t argue with that.
Another line coninues to go up and down. Somewhat like a heart monitor. It’s been like this for some time…I really hope it stays strong.
So what is my line? I think all these lines helped me find my line, whether it was a good line or not. My line…is one that goes up and explodes at the top. Maybe because it could be interpreted in two different ways. One would be I like to start off simple then blow everyone’s mind away. Or I start off simple and then in the end I can’t take it anymore and explode.
My line…I wonder how many lines I’ll have to encounter before I’m finally able to see my own line?

Map Project Idea

So I want to make this a 3D project. Because: 1. I want this to be kind of a walk through my life (soemthing like walking through my footsteps) 2. I'll be blunt, I suck at 2D
So my idea comes from my 2D dots project then with making them 3D. I want to take the dots and make them into large pop out dots. Then I'll put my life story on each dot. The smallest with the first few years and the largest dots with my life as is now.
I think this would be an interesting map

Modular Madness Critic

So I think many people liked my spoon explosion.

The advice I was given was to make the piece bigger so that it would look more like an explosion. Also the single sppons in the air were a good idea but didn't appear to look natural.

So the next time I have a chance to work on this, I'll make it bigger. Maybe enough to blow the viewers away. (lol)

Battle Cry: SPPOOOOOOOOOOONS!!!! XD

Finished.

Living in a Marterial World: Questions

Does the form of the overall piece respond to or resonate with the objects chosen as modules?
The spoons responded well with the overall form of the piece. The patterens I choose to create the piece worked out nicely.

Could the piece be made from another object as well, or is there a precise/nessasay correspondence between the objects and the structure?

The piece could be made out of another object but it would have a different impact on the overall piece. For examples the spoons create certain patterns that no other object could create which were nessasary for the piece.

Explain any material difficulties in usage?

The only material difficulties were making the spoons go in the diretion I wanted.

Meaningful discoveries?

Don't force the spoons, just let them be spoons. It makes things smoother and usually turns out better in the end.

Process/Ambitiousness

Does the piece rise above the ordinary in terms of scale, materials or effort?

The more spoons the piece had the better the piece came out. This casued the piece to be larger and more of an effort.

How did the piece change from initial mental imaginings to final piece?

Because the spoons wanted to do their own thing, the piece altered from it's original mental image. Though this worked out in the end because the point of the piece was made.

Was the initial idea or final piece more ambitious? How so?

The initial idea of the piece was at the sam ambition level. The original idea was to have the piece at least 5 feet tall with and openeing. The final piece is at ground level but has more creative additions put on than the original idea.

Craftsmanship

Is the way the piece put together helping the overall effect or distracting from it?

The piece draws the viwers to the piece which is a plus since that I what I want the piece to do.

Form

What are the dominant formal elements visible in the work? Are these elements improtant to the piece? In what ways?

The dominant formal elements in the piece are space and value. Space because there is space within the piece that allows views to see the inside of the piece. Value because of the number of spoons used to create the piece. I think it might cause the viewers to think about how many spoons went to make the piece.

What are the dominating principles visible or implied in the work? Explain.

The dominating principles were repetion, rhythm and continuance. Repetition because the spoons repeat certain patterns within the piece. Rhythm because of the patterns within the piece. Continuance because the patterns continue within the piece.

Concept

Does piece relate to the source objects hisroty, function or purpose? If so, how?

Not really, except showing that the spoons are a tool.

How does the presentation of the piece alter the veiwers understanding of the source object?

The viewer might think of the spoons as play things instead of a tool. Which makes my laugh.

Presentation

Why here?

I want the viewers to see the front rather than the back of the piece. In this piece the front is more important to view than the back.

What is the relationship of the work to the space?

The piece appears to want to slip away  from its space. This is what I more or less want.

How do the surrounding elements impact the viewing and impression of the piece?

Because of the piece the surrounding elements hardly impact the piece. The viewers are drawn more to the piece than the surrounding elements.

Does the piece respond or ignore what is around it? How so?

The piece ignores its surroundings as the piece as it appears to be crawling away from its surroundings.

Photo Lines

I like them all so picking 5 for later will be difficult...

My Dots and Umbrellas

So with the Critics:
Theme/Human Element: Kind of obvious we went steaking in the WASH building. Original plan crashed and burned compared to this idea. We gave ourselves a 5.
Craftsmansip: Everyone's photos (save Katy's) were a bit pixilated. Too bad so we gave ourselves a 4.
Whitespace: Gave ourselves a 5. Pretty cool and amazing what a clear blank plastic sheet of transparant plastic can do.
Selection/Revision: We only redid a few photos so not bad at all.
Group Effort: Gave ourselves a 3 due to an absence and lack of communication.

Spoons: The Idea

I have a rough idea of what I'm going to make out of my spoons. Putting them together might be more of a challange. I'm thinking I should maybe taping them together, but that would look tacky. Hot glue would be messy too but it might have to do. So for right now I think I'll use regular Elmer's glue.

Minimulism and Post minimulism

For Minimulism I choose Sol LeWitt

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/art/blog/images/1152.jpg
I choose LeWitt becasue I like how he plays with the colors but can still make balance the amount of colors within the art.

For Post mininulism I choose Eva Hesse

http://www.tate.org.uk/research/tateresearch/tatepapers/07spring/images/saletnik_fig9large.jpg

I choose Hesse beacuse I like how her art begins with a 2D surface but transformed into 3D touch up.

For Process art I choose Richard Serra.

http://img.timeinc.net/time/photoessays/2007/richard_serra/richard_serra_10.jpg

I choose Serra because of the way he creates his scultures. They are unique and like to stand out to make a statement.

For Arte povera I choose Gilberto Zorio

I choose Zorio becasue of the way he captures and creates the star in his artwork. That and I'm a sucker for stars.
